Jill Ramsower

Jill Ramsower often describes her writing as “mafia lite,” expertly delivering the danger and violence of a mafia world while preserving the genuine love interest between her main characters.

The suspense of her novels revolves around the challenges her main characters face, rather than the outcome of the relationship itself. If its a guaranteed happily ever after you’re craving, definitely check out her collection below. What I’ve enjoyed most about Jill’s books so far is her ability to intertwine the stories of the characters, while preserving the unique facets of the conflict in each story. Not only does each book develop the complexity of the world she has built for us, but we learn something new about the webs of intrigue surrounding the characters, continue to get pieces of the characters’ stories that we have already met, as well as glimpses of the characters we will grow to love in future books.

If you prefer your MFC’s timid and dependent, these books are not your cup of tea. Personally, I’m obsessed with the imperfect, assertive, and dare I say devious women that Jill writes. Even the characters that seem meek on the surface, have a lioness prowling beneath. Her method of explorating each character’s trauma by slowly revealing details as the heroine confronts and overcomes it is an absolute breath of fresh air. She doesn’t shy away from the reality that growing up in a mafia world has wounded each of the characters she writes in ways that lends them a level of humanity, making them more relatable and engaging.

When it comes to the men of this series the first thing that comes to mind is deliciously dark. They are possessive, protective, and powerful. Yes, every match is unique, but in the end you can expect resistance from our MFC and a chase from the MMC. Jill explores dynamics of arranged marriages, stalkers, manipulation, rivals to lovers, kidnapping, and more. Despite how they meet, these men are dominant, sexy monsters that you’ll want to fall for.

OK, let’s talk spice.

Most of Jill’s romances fall under slow burn in my opinion. There’s a lot of build up, heavy chemistry, and “I shouldn’t want him” vibes. Once we get to her spicier scenes they tend to be more suggestive and figurative rather than explicit. I’ve found this varies from book to book somewhat and even from one character to another. With these mafia men, however, her flavor of spice tends to include delightful composition of dirty talk and passionate sex.

Admittedly Of Myth & Men, her fantasy series, is still on my TBR at the moment. Considering how much I enjoyed her other books I don’t expect it to stay there for long!
