Hi, I’m Daphne.
In the spirit of the Candor this site is built on, I’ll start with the truth: Daphne Brynn is a pen name. I chose it carefully to create a space where I could be the freest, truest version of myself.
In Greek mythology, Daphne represents autonomy and victory—a woman who transformed to protect her own agency. Brynn means "high hill," symbolizing the climb it takes to overcome the valleys of life.
For me, romance novels were the balm that helped me survive that climb.
For years, I navigated the fog of postpartum depression, anxiety, and the quiet, heavy dissatisfaction of losing myself in marriage and motherhood. During those times, romance novels were my escape. They offered me a safe harbor where I could rest, but they also gave me an education. Through these stories, I found the language to understand my own desires and the courage to begin shedding the shame ingrained by a conservative upbringing.
This website is my next step in that journey. It is an attempt to reclaim a passion solely for myself, and hopefully, it is the first step toward my dream of one day writing and editing stories of my own.
The Mission: Candor & Spice
I created this site to be a sanctuary for adventurous spirits and a celebration of feminine sexuality. Too often, women are taught to hide their hunger—for adventure, for pleasure, for more. Here, we embrace it.
But I also built this site to solve a very practical problem: The Overwhelm.
We have all been there—staring at an endless list of titles, trying to guess if a book will be a 5-star escape or a frustrating DNF. Standard synopses are rarely enough. I wanted to create the library I wish I had for myself—a place where reviews are detailed, honest, and specific.
That is why every review on Candor & Spice goes beyond a simple star rating. I break down novels using a detailed scorecard, rating them on a scale of 1-5 for specific categories like Narration, Writing Quality, Spice Level, Kinkiness, and Violence. Whether you are looking for a dark, spicy thrill or a sweet, healing comfort read, my goal is to help you find exactly what you are in the mood for, without the guesswork.
